Wanderlust Water
An enchanting watery grotto glimmers in the moonlight. The edges of this pond lap at the soils serving as a container for the space. A mysterious and soft fog cascades around and sounds of insects chirping flood your ears. A warm breeze drifts through your hair and body as you place a bare foot into the pond.
The cool waters graciously touch your skin, whispering sweet melancholies into your essence. You wade further into the cool depths, the grotto offers a peaceful protection from the outside world. Your heart begins to beat in unison with the ripples traversing from your movements.
Deeper and deeper you mingle with this fluid.
Connection, tranquility, and sacredness.
Ease your head below its surface and allow the beckoning darkness to cleanse your senses. Float in this weightlessness and feel just how magical and rejuvenating this space is.
Breathe and be reborn.

The energy of water engulfs us, flowing into every crevasse, twist or turn. It’s all-consuming. But not in the way that fire consumes, destroys, and rebuilds. Water is all-consuming in a way that pulls you into a trance, leaves you suspended in solitude, floats you into a liminality, complete with a mirror into your subconscious dreams, fears, and the Unknown.
Elemental water has layers upon layers of associations. On the surface, would be our individual emotions, imagination, and our inner self. Going a little deeper would encompass our relationships to others and the dreamworld. Deeper still, would be our intuition, individual beliefs, spirituality, and personal gnosis. And the layers continue on to incorporate the collective unconscious, occult and spiritual knowledge, multidimensionality, oneness, the unknown, etc. etc. etc.
Water energy, in my opinion, has the most vast associations out of all the elements. It is also hard to articulate in a justifiable manner due to the natural illusiveness of fluidity. Instead of words coming to mind when I’m asked to explain water energy, my body begins to sway in this hypnotic dance. Elemental water is so much more of an inner knowing or feeling rather than something tangible.
Physical water will take the shape of whatever container it is placed within. Elemental water acts similar, in that our imagination itself becomes a limiting factor. But, we can use this to our own advantage, in that by feeding our imagination we retain and grow depth within our souls.
This depth is desirable within many holistic healing modalities, therapeutic counseling, and even magical fundamentals. “Know thyself” is an extremely common phrase often utilized to speak on the wisdoms that come from the depth of knowing your own personal truth and acting in alignment with it.
Elemental water is a world in and of itself and we are blessed to have a small amount of it flowing within us. Water holds memory, energy, connection, and the unknown. Take a drop of water from the ocean, place it under a microscope, and you’ll be able to see tiny organisms living their tiny lives. Travel to the middle of the ocean and you’ll find all sorts of giant fish and mammals. All things, big or small, are connected via water.
Water mirrors the dream states held in our eyes, our essence softly spoken from our souls, and our memories woven together through emotion. And it mirrors our fears, pains, loneliness, and darkness. Water is the pillar of collective subconscious reflection and a portal to Endlessness.
In the Alchemical Air blog, I stated that we reside in the realm of Earth, Divinity/Soul/Unknown resides in Water, and Air bridges these two worlds together. I believe this to be true because the depth of Water is articulated through the languages brought by Air and is then materialized with the physicality of Earth. This is exactly what happens when we engage the imagination and create artistic expressions of our essence. This process also happens when we pick up on energy via psychic abilities. The energy is from Water and psychic abilities from Air.
When we have an excess of water energy or abuse the siren’s call, we can become lost amongst our inner world. Emotions reign unchecked, manipulation and deceit persist, trauma responses seem never ending, our voice becomes stripped of strength and folds back into the darkness cascading the mind. When water increases in depth, the pressure builds, and elemental air has a hard time piercing through. From personal experience, the further I fell into depression, the harder it was to articulate my needs or express my emotions, until one day I just snapped.
The destruction of water energy is that of a hurricane, swirling and growing until it finally reaches land only to flood and rampage the area. Outside of emotionality, diving into the depths of water unprepared is dangerous and can potentially lead to psychosis—whether this is general psychosis, spiritual psychosis, or any other loss of connection to reality. Spending too much time in the watery realm can be very detrimental. Always come up for air when you need to and ground often into something tangible.
If you wish to go deeper into the layers of elemental water, being slow, steady, and smart is a must. Take the training regiments of professional divers as inspiration. Ground, learn, prepare, communicate, and have help on standby.
